Make the news handleing less sucky

The current implementation of the new section (and thus the motd) isn't all that useful, whilst we can stick old news to the front page, we cant force old (but not old enough) news off the front page.

Arthur suggested having a expiry date on news items, so they can be automaticly hidden once they are no longer relivent.

The limit of 3 news items in the MOTD is also too restrictive, it should either be removed (so it shows all current news) or should listen to the stick to front page flag.

I agree, built-in expiry dates could work very well, and of course the ability to edit the expiry date or make things expire at the click of a button

Expiry dates were implemented, but things are still a confused mess. Must try harder :-)
